The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour is a non-profit organization responsible for organizing major golf tournaments in North America. It deals with competitions like, the annual PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions involving golfers over 50 years in age, and Web.com Tour involving professional players who are yet to qualify to play in the main PGA Tour. The association also handles PGA Tour China, PGA Tour Canada, and PGA Tour LatinoAmérica. Headquarters of the organization are in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Initially, the organization came into existence as the Professional Golfers’ Association of America before changing into something else in 1968. It became an organization of tour players rather than club professionals as it is today. The name PGA Tour came up in 1975 and it manages most of the weekly professional golfing events today. These weekly events go by the name PGA Tour. These events include the FedEx Cup, The Players Championship, and the Presidents Cup. Other remaining PGA Tour events run under other organizations including the women’s LPGA Tour and other professional tours in other parts of the world.

The tour commenced in 1929, and at some point, tournament players attempted to work separately from club professionals. With the increasing popularity and revenue of the game, a rift ensued between the two groups on how to deal with the money leading to tournament players forming their own association called America Professional Golfers, Inc (APG), which separated from the PGA of America.

A few months later, the two sides reached a compromise, dissolved the APG, and merged forming the PGA Tournament Players Division. Some disputes followed later, leading to later renaming itself to the TPA Tour. After a few months, the disputes ended and the name changed back to the PGA Tour. Over time, more players from other parts of the world joined the fray, and the association saw an increase in revenue making its events more popular due to the competitive nature of the events. The PGA Tour then evolved to what it is today attracting the best in the golfing arena.
